Saturday, Glenda and I went on a pilgrimage. We headed east into the desert. Our destination: Salvation Mountain. Recently this place appeared in the movie Into The Wild. Here is a two minute clip:
It happened where I wouldn’t expect things like this to happen. It happened in a booth. In a restaurant that primarily serves soups and salads. The place was bright and fresh, with hanging plants and green cushions on the seats. I was there meeting a friend of mine for lunch. As we ate we talked about the journeys life had taken us on, and specifically the times since we had started following Jesus. At one point near the end of our meal, my friend looked at me with his sparkling blue eyes, leaned across the table and said in a hushed and serious tone, “Jesus is right about everything.” What happened next caught me off guard. That phrase, “Jesus is right about everything.” penetrated my soul, penetrated my spirit in a remarkable way. Something inside me changed when I heard those words. Make no mistake, I believed that Jesus is right about everything before my friend said it. But somehow, that day, it came alive in me. And it has not gone away.
